Nepean Sea Road widening to start soon

The delay in road widening process of North side of Nepean Sea road is giving sleepless nights to the regular commuters on that stretch. The traffic has also taken a toll on the motorist and pedestrians alike. A resident of Nepean Sea road, says, "Due to delay in the implementation of the project we are facing traffic jams, which is resulting in a delay of more than 30 minutes to reach our destination".

The reason cited by BMC officials for the delay is that a patch of approximately 500 meters between St. Stephen Church to Embassy Apartment (Opp. HP Petrol Pump) cannot be obtained as a setback. Several high profile residents of this stretch feel their building / bungalow compounds would be compromised as setbacks for road widening.

Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha, BJP MLA, Malabar Hill constituency along with Mrs. Geeta Mirchandani, Chair Person, Nepean Sea Road Citizen Forum (NSRCF), Mr. Farooq Mehta, Mr. Jagdish Tapadia, Mr. Gidwani, Mr. Ratan Lal and various members of NSRCF recently met municipal commissioner Mr. Jairaj Phatak to request BMC to expedite the process. Various BMC officials including Mr. C. D. Chore, Assistant Commissioner, "D" Ward, Mr. D.L. Shinde, and Chief Engineer (Road & Traffic) were also present for the meeting. Mr. Phatak assured Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha of his personal attention in this matter. A special team headed by Mr. R. A. Rajeev, Additional Municipal Commissioner, has been formed and instructed to take action on priority basis and start the widening work at the earliest.
